GU LAB at the 8th CAS Science Festival
On November 1–2, 2025, GU LAB participated in the 8th Science Festival hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the National Botanical Garden (South Garden), Beijing. Under the theme “Hi, Science! – Curiosity Explores the Unknown, Science Connects the Future”, our team engaged the public with interactive demonstrations.

Highlights included:

    • 3D Printing Showcase: Live printing of toy dinosaurs, colorful PLA models, and explanations of FDM, SLA, and binder jetting technologies.
    • Hands-on Experiments: Magnetic “magic mud” and non-Newtonian fluids sparked children’s curiosity about material science.
    • Bioprinting Demonstration: Introduction to bio-inks and tissue engineering, showing potential applications in regenerative medicine.
    • Microfluidics Display: Real-time observation of droplet formation under microscopes, illustrating precision in fluid dynamics.
    • Interactive Activities: Quizzes, prize draws, and fingerprint tree participation encouraged engagement and creativity.

The event drew enthusiastic responses from both children and parents, reinforcing the importance of science communication and inspiring future exploration. GU LAB remains committed to bringing cutting-edge research closer to the public and looks forward to sharing more “unbelievable science miracles” at next year’s festival.

Participation in the UOW Alumni Event, joining fellow alumni in welcoming Professor G.Q. Max Lu AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Wollongong. Professor Lu led the UOW delegation on an official visit to the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), aiming to strengthen academic collaboration and foster institutional ties. The event provided an important opportunity for alumni engagement, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing international cooperation in research and education.

We’re delighted to announce that our team’s perspective, Future Frontiers in Bioinspired Implanted Biomaterials, has been published in Advanced Materials.

From organ‑mimicking scaffolds to smart materials that listen and respond to the body, our work charts the path toward adaptive implants that regenerate tissue and transform patient care. This piece distills cutting‑edge advances in cell‑laden constructs, 3D biofabrication, and stimuli‑responsive systems — and lays out a vision for the next phase of regenerative medicine.

Congratulations to Prof. Qi Gu on being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). This distinction honors Prof. Gu’s exceptional contributions to biomaterials & bioengineering and the broader scientific community.
